I’ve known Izzy for years as she’s the sister of one of my best friends and she happens to be an amazing wedding photographer herself so it was such an honour to do the photography for her and Jay’s DIY marquee wedding at her parents farm near Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire. She then repaid the favour by photographing my own wedding just a few weeks later!
Jenny was one of the best decisions we made for our big day, she was discreet but helpful with direction when needed. We are in love with our photos and look at them constantly. We can’t recommend her enough!
IZZY + JAY
Warwickshire marquee wedding
Izzy and Jay had the most incredible rustic DIY wedding – there really was so much to love about it. The day was the accumulation of years of planning and they achieved the ultimate relaxed, laid back celebration. For this couple, getting married in the barn on the family farm with a big party in a marquee in the neighbouring field was the dream – a completely unique and personal wedding with no agenda to follow but their own.
However, a DIY marquee wedding is also high risk, especially given the English summer’s track record. But fortune favours the brave and although it rained all morning , the clouds parted for long enough for the couple and their guests to enjoy drinks and canapés in the courtyard. In this case, the pay off was definitely worth the risk!
Humanist ceremony
Having done the legal bit a few days before, they had a more personal humanist ceremony in the barn. Decorated with urns of wild flowers and big wheels of hops, it looked amazing! There were readings, music and plenty of singing, which got all of their friends and family ready to party!
After the ceremony, we wandered around the farm taking some portraits of the couple. The guests enjoyed canapés and fizz while being entertained by steel drummers.
DIY wedding
The marquee was decorated beautifully with homemade and grown decor – flowers that Izzy’s mum had grown in her garden along with hundreds of individually folded origami paper cranes. Lot of rustic log slices, enamel tins, gin bottles and hand painted favours completed the look.
Izzy and Jay’s day had all the ingredients for an amazing wedding – they have the most incredible bunch of family and friends and it was an absolutely honour to not only document it but be a guest as well
Without further ado, here’s their DIY marquee farm wedding…
